RANGE: Europe and Northern Asia.
HABITAT:Open country, farmland,moorland, downs and steppes, heathland, semi-desert. single tracts and sand dunes.
HISTORY: Linneaus 1758.
SUB SPECIES:
P.p.hispaniensis      - North Spain and north-east Portugal.
P.p.armoricana        - Normandy and central France, north to
                                       Morvan Mountains and Ardennes.
P.p.sphagnetorum  - North-east Netherlands and north-west                                         Germany.
P.p.lucida                   - Finland, east to Ural Mts. and south to Black                                          Sea and north Caucasus.
P.p.canescens          - Turkey, Caucasus, Transcaucasia and Iran.
P.p.robusta                -
Lower Ural Basins east to south-west Siberia                                           Kazakhstan and Xinjiang in China.

DESCRIPTION:Male 305 mm. The male look similar to   the female. The difference is the color of the wings. The male has lighter brown color and the female has darker brown color.It is difficult to raise the chicks. They need live food and more care.
AVAIRY POSITION:Well planted , sand based  2m2 avairy.
FEEDING: Chick crumbs, seeds, live food and green food.
BREEDING AGE: First year.
BREEDING SEASON: March to May.
NUMBER OF EGGS IN A YEAR: 20-36 eggs.
INCUBATION PERIOD: 25 days.
